Birdwatching as Meditation

Susan Bristol, Board Chair, Wayne County Conservation District

I've been reading about meditation and one way to meditate for those who cannot or don't wish to sit still and think of nothing is to birdwatch. Wayne county has a wide variety of birds that grace our borders and beyond. It has been know that upwards of 90 different species of birds have been sited on the Edsel and Eleanor Ford estate.

A great example of what you might find in your own back yards is the red-bellied woodpecker which I saw this morning as I was startled by a sound that resembled a jackhammer on my roof.

Here is a photo what this magnificent bird looks like.
